Iowa City String Orchestra Fall Concert

The Iowa City Community String Orchestra, now in its 30th season, will present a free concert at the Englert Theater, Saturday, November 7 at 3pm.  Conductor Carey Bostian continues a tradition of focusing on local composers and soloists in addition to other works from the classical traditions.

The concert includes Tawny Throated Ayres, the work of Iowa composer Philip Wharton, featuring Benjamin Coelho, Associate Professor of Bassoon at the University of Iowa.  Dr. Coelho is also Principal Bassoon with Orchestra, an avid chamber musician and lover of music.

Other works include George Philipp Teleman’s Suite for Strings-“La Lyra”, Franz Josef Haydn’s Symphony No. 87 in A Major and Darius Milhaud’s contemporary Chamber Symphony #4 for string orchestra.  The concert is free and open to the public.

A silent auction will be held on the day of the event.  Proceeds used to help keep concerts free to the public.

Due to scheduling issues, this is a Saturday concert.

Members of the orchestra represent a diverse array of professions, ages and backgrounds. For information on playing with or supporting the organization, please contact Kate Paxton,
